Food Assistance Program Temporary food assistance for eligible low-income families and individuals is available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Use MI Bridges to apply for assistance, check your. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps Pennsylvanians buy food. People in eligible low-income households can obtain more nutritious diets with SNAP increasing their food purchasing power at grocery stores and supermarkets. Those who are eligible receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) ACCESS Card to make food.
The annual Summer Summit brings together the Tennessee Department of Human Services, Tennessee Department of Education, United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, food program sponsors, and national, state and local thought leaders on food insecurity and food access to launch planning and preparation to provide meals to children in summer months.
The goal of this year’s Summer Summit is to celebrate accomplishments made in serving children during the COVID-19 pandemic while planning for an increase in sponsors, meal sites, and mapping a new way of doing business in our state’s new normal.
This year’s Summer Summit will feature:
- Speakers from the Department of Human Services and Department of Education
- Guidance from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service
- Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Feeding Option Program Overviews
- Presentations on Innovations and Experiences by Program Sponsors
- Presentations from No Kid Hungry
- Presentations on Partnering with Libraries to Provide Meals and Enrichment Opportunities
- Presentations on SNAP Nutrition Education for Families

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides administrative and operational payments to eligible agencies for serving meals to low income children. Eligible agencies included private nonprofit organizations, local governments, and state colleges and universities. To learn more, click here.
Seamless Summer Feeding Option (SSO)
The SSO program allows School Food Authorities (SFAs) to provide free meals to qualified low income areas during traditional summer vacation or with state agency approval on balanced calendar breaks greater than ten days. To learn more, click here.
